Thank you for using Equal AI (“we”, “our”, “us” “Assistant”). Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and safeguard your personal information (defined in Section 2) when you use our application and services.
We want to ensure that you have complete control over the means and the manner in which you wish us to process your data. We process your personal information as permitted under applicable data processing laws, and in most cases will be processing your personal information based on your explicit consent and for a specified purpose as informed to you while seeking your consent, and to the extent permissible under applicable law, shall process your personal information that you voluntarily provide to us without prior consent (and we have elaborated on these two methods in the ‘About Us’ section below).
We are in strict compliance with the provisions of Information Technology Act, 2000 and Information Technology (Reasonable security practices and sensitive personal data and information) Rules, 2011, and shall endeavour to comply with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”), which is not currently in force, however, after it is
brought into force, we will ensure full compliance with the DPDP Act and the underlying rules.
Equal AI is your personal digital assistant, designed to answer phone calls on your behalf and intelligently assist in conversations. Whether it's handling unknown calls, identifying spam, or managing delivery instructions, Equal AI acts on your behalf as an intelligent extension of you saving time, reducing interruptions, and enhancing how you communicate.
By providing us with your express consent/voluntarily providing your personal information to us (where relevant), you acknowledge and agree that the Assistant shall collect and process your personal information, for specific purposes which broadly involves handling incoming unknown calls and making conversation on your behalf (we have elaborated on the personal information collected and the specific purpose for processing in the sections below). You also acknowledge and agree that the configuration, activation, and use of the Assistant, which essentially involves responding to calls from unknown numbers, may result in disclosure of contextual information, or specific actions or establishment of inter-se relationships between you and the unknown caller, which the Assistant as your agent will facilitate. Any activities of the Assistant as your agent is entirely governed by the personal information and preferences that you provide.
As mentioned above, we will collect personal information in either of the following ways.
Consent: In most cases, we will process your personal information based on your prior specific consent you have provided through your acceptance of this Privacy Policy prior to providing your personal information to us, which you can withdraw at any time as per the process that we have set out in Section 8 of this Privacy Policy; or
Legitimate use of voluntarily provided personal information: Notwithstanding anything contained herein, and subject to the DPDP Act (when in force) and other applicable laws, your use of our services and voluntary provision of personal
information shall be deemed as your consent to our collection and use of such information in accordance with this policy, unless you expressly indicate otherwise. Specifically, this may involve situations where you: (i) provide personal information
to set up an account with the Assistant; (ii) provide personal information to train the Assistant to respond to conversations from unknown callers, along with your instructions, preferences or personalisation; (iii) provide personal information to us
while providing us feedback; and (iv) provide personal information to us while contacting us. It is clarified that we may also have certain additional legitimate grounds for processing of personal information as may be permitted under applicable laws.
You understand that Equal AI does not make autonomous or unsolicited actions; every action taken by the Assistant is a result of your prior acceptance of this Privacy Policy and the Terms and Conditions for Equal AI (“Terms”). Any inference, response, or disclosure made by the Assistant is rooted in the scope of consent provided by you/voluntarily provided personal information, and it is reiterated that the role played by the Assistant when it has conversation with unknown callers is on your behalf, and as your agent.
Accordingly, you agree that Equal AI shall not be liable for any legal claims, damages, or consequences arising from the Assistant's conduct during such interactions including but not limited to disclosure of information, call handling behaviour, or actions taken during calls where such conduct is solely based on your configuration, instructions, or granted permissions, with the Assistant’s role being limited as that of an agent. By continuing to use Equal AI, you accept full responsibility for how the Assistant interacts on your behalf as your agent within the framework of your selected preferences or anything thereby.
We have laid out specifically below the personal information that we collect from you, our basis for processing said personal information, and the specific purposes of processing.
We will collect the following types of information (“personal information”):
Account Information: We collect your name, phone number and gender, when you register with us. This personal information helps us create your account to use the Assistant, to personalise your experience, enable core functionalities, and verify your identity when needed. We use such personal information for:
a. completion of your registration and setting up of your account;
b. to meaningfully interact with you on the Assistant;
c. train the Assistant, on your behalf, which in turn engages in conversation with the unknown caller;
d. provide and improve the services and features on the Assistant that you request; to resolve disputes and troubleshoot problems;
e. to help promote a safe service on the Assistant and protect the security and integrity of the Assistant, the services and the users;
f. to customise or improve your experience on the Assistant;
g. to enforce and inform about our Terms;
h. to process and fulfil your request for services or respond to your queries on the Assistant or to us separately;
i. to contact you;
j. to communicate important notices or changes in the services, relevant for the use of the Assistant or for availing the services;
k. in cases where we have a legal duty to use your personal information for a particular reason;
l. sharing and disclosure of personal information with partners and other third parties, as may be required for providing the services;
m. to alert you on new features or enhancements to our services;
n. to communicate with you our services about which you have inquired;
o. to ensure that the Assistant and services function in an effective manner for you;
p. to investigate potential breaches, or to protect the rights, property or safety of the Assistant and its users;
q. to fulfil our contractual obligations towards you; and
r. for any other purpose after obtaining your consent at the time of collection.
Do note that we use your personal information to send you communications regarding the services, as well as send you messages where the primary purpose is to advertise or promote our products or services and messages that relate to your transactions or relationship with us, including usage of the Assistant, purchase of products or services, research, publications, or updates to the Terms. However, we will allow you to opt out of receiving such emails from us. If you opt out, we may still send you non-promotional emails, such as emails about the services, and where feasible, you can opt-out of such emails as well. This will, however, not apply to instances where the emails are correlated to and part of the service offerings provided by us.
Usage Data: We collect Assistant activity, device type, operating system, IP address and browser. This personal information helps us understand how you interact with the Assistant, improve usability, performance and stability and detect technical issues and optimise features.
Call Recording Data: We collect call audio or transcribed data from phone callschandled by the Assistant. This helps us generate summaries, help you decide how to respond or follow-up, and improve the Assistant’s accuracy and contextual understanding.
Derived Data: The Assistant may use behavioural learning memory and AI modelling to derive insights from your interactions on how you want your information to be handled and shared by us. This derived data is stored in the
Assistant’s memory to help personalize and optimize your experience with the Assistant, allowing it to respond more fluently, contextually, and effectively. All such personalisation and inference is done strictly within the scope of your acceptance to the terms of this Privacy Policy and is aimed at enhancing the quality and relevance of your interactions.
Information that you may provide us and how we use it: During calls handled by the Assistant, you may voluntarily disclose new personal information such as your address, contact details, or account information that was not previously shared with the Assistant during the sign-up process either through chat interface or calls. By continuing with such conversations while the Assistant is active, you acknowledge and agree we may process your personal information, as permitted under applicable law and under this Privacy Policy, for the contextual capture and storage of such information, solely for the purpose of generating summaries, enhancing personalisation, and enabling relevant future interactions, strictly within the scope of your permissions and settings. We do not use or share any such user-disclosed information beyond the limits of your explicit consent, and you retain full control over managing or deleting such data at any time.
For you to be able to avail our services, we will require your specific and explicit consent to access the following:
Call Contacts and Call Log Data: We require mandatory access to your device’s contact list and call log. This access is essential for the core functionality of the Assistant, specifically to identify whether incoming calls are from known or unknown numbers and to personalise responses accordingly. The contact and call log data is accessed solely for this limited purpose and is processed in accordance with applicable data protection laws. We do not use this information for any unrelated purpose, nor do we share it with third parties without your explicit consent or unless required by law.
Notifications: We require access to your device’s notifications to detect incoming call alerts in real time and assist with caller identification. This access is limited to call-related notifications only and is not used to read messages or other unrelated Assistant content.
Caller ID: The Assistant may generate caller ID information by analysing unknown incoming calls and assigning labels based on contextual and behavioural data. These caller IDs are system-generated and not manually added by users. While this helps identify callers across the Assistant, no private conversations, personal information, or individual user history is shared with others as part of the caller ID system.
We want to clarify at the outset that we do not sell your personal information. We may share your personal information in the following situations:
With employees and third-party service providers/vendors/contractors authorised to take action on our behalf: To provide our service to you and to help us operate, maintain, and improve the Assistant, only if deemed necessary for providing such service to you, such as sending e-mails to you or for hosting and operating a particular functionality of the service. To this end, all the third parties and employees with whom we share personal information are bound by confidentiality and are monitored by our IT department and information security team.
Legal Requirements: If required to comply with a legal obligation, protect and defend our rights or property, or prevent fraud or illegal activity.
Business Transfers: If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale.
We store your data on a secure database with high-end security systems and we store it (i) until the purpose for which that personal information was collected is no longer being served by the retention of such personal information; and (ii) retention is no longer necessary for any other reason including applicable law. In the event you change your mind and do not wish for us to process your data, you have the right to request deletion or removal of your personal information, in a manner as mentioned under our “Delete your Data” by writing to us at grievance@equal.in
On such an erasure request, we shall delete all of your personal information stored by us. We shall also ensure that any third-party service provider processing your personal information on our behalf deletes all your personal information, unless retention of the same is necessary. Upon such erasure request being made by you, we will undertake the necessary deletion within a reasonable time and will cease processing your personal information, except as may be permitted under applicable law. Please note that we may not be able to allow you access to the Assistant and/or provide services, subsequent to your exercising of this right.
We share your personal information with third-party vendors or partners under contractual arrangements outside India, to such jurisdictions that is permitted under applicable law, strictly for the purpose of providing our services. Such transfers are carried out subject to appropriate data protection and security measures to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of your information. Any change in our data transfer practices in the future will be notified to you, and you may review our revised Privacy Policy and provide your consent to such updated practices.
As part of data security measures:
a. We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, loss, misuse, or alteration.
b. We have adopted all reasonable safeguards as mandated by the applicable law in order to protect your personal information. The personal information provided by you is stored only on the servers in India.
c. Despite our best practices of safeguarding your personal information, you understand and accept that there is no guarantee that data transmission over the Internet will be completely secure and that any data that you transmit to us is at your own risk. We assume no liability for any disclosure of data due to errors in transmission issues, unauthorised third-party access to our Assistant and databases or other acts of third parties or acts or omissions beyond our reasonable control and you shall not be entitled to hold us responsible for any breach of security. In the event of any actual or suspected security incidents, including data breaches, we will take all measures required to be undertaken under applicable laws.
When you use Equal AI, you will have certain rights regarding your personal information available under applicable laws, including:
Reviewing or correcting your data: You have the right to correct or update any of your personal information. In the event that you notice that any personal information already provided by you is inaccurate or incomplete or needs to be updated, you can ask us to rectify such personal information (if the same cannot be done at your end through the Assistant) by contacting grievance@equal.in. Further, if any personal information already provided by you is inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated, then you must promptly give us the accurate, complete, and up-to-date personal information by writing to us a the email ID provided above, and we shall accordingly rectify such personal information at our end. We urge you to ensure that you always provide us with accurate and correct information/data to ensure that your use of our services is uninterrupted. In case of any such modification of personal information, you may be required to furnish supporting documents relating to the change in personal information for verification, if required by us. Any loss or damage accruing due to provision of inaccurate information or failure to update your details, will be your sole responsibility, to our total exclusion.
Deleting your information: You shall have the right to request for erasure of your personal information in the manner prescribed under Section 5 above.
Right to deny consent: You shall have the right to deny a request for consent for (i) collection and processing of specific personal information; (ii) processing of personal information for specific purposes; (iii) disclosure of such personal information to any third parties; and (iv) retention of such personal information beyond the completion of purpose (except when the same is required to be retained under applicable laws). However, any such denial will not prejudice our rights or the rights of our partners to retain any personal information that you have provided in relation to the services already availed by you through the Assistant, or by any third-party service providers, as per the provisions of this Privacy Policy. Further, in case of a denial of a request for consent, we do not guarantee the provision or continued facilitation of the Assistant and/or a service.
Right to withdraw consent: You may also choose to withdraw your consent (including consent provided for the processing of your personal information by us or by any third party on our behalf) supplied to us at any point in time. To withdraw your consent for the use, processing, disclosure, sharing or transferring of any personal information, you may raise a request on the Assistant or mail us at grievance@equal.in and/or alternatively, click on the “insert” link provided to you in the email sent by us. Your withdrawal of the consent will not affect the lawfulness of processing of personal information based on your consent before its withdrawal. In such an event, you are responsible for the consequences of such withdrawal of consent, and we do not provide a guarantee of services if any such option to withdraw consent is exercised. If you do not provide your consent or later withdraw your consent, we reserve the right not to offer you a service and/or the Assistant, if such personal information was relevant for provision of the service and/or Assistant.
In scenarios of withdrawal, we may delete/archive your personal information or other information we had earlier collected and stored, or de-identify it so that it is anonymous and not attributable to you.
Upon receiving a request for deletion of your personal information, or withdrawal of consent for the processing of personal information, we shall not retain your personal information if we no longer need it, or there is a legal requirement to retain the same. Do note that multiple legal bases may exist in parallel, and we may still have to retain certain data and information at any time.
Right to nominate: You shall have the right to nominate any other individual, who shall, in the event of your death or incapacity, exercise your rights in relation to your personal information, as per applicable law.

The Assistant is not intended for children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 18 or encourage children to interact with the Assistant. If you believe we have collected such data, please contact us so we can delete it. We do not owe any responsibility to any such user, who is a child, or towards his parents or lawful guardian, as applicable.
The Assistant and our services are inclusive and cater to all persons, including persons with disabilities. For the purpose of this Privacy Policy, a person with disability refers to someone with long-term physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory impairment that may hinder their full and effective participation equally with others, but a person who is otherwise competent to contract. If you are a user with a disability and require any assistance to access or use the Assistant, please contact us at grievance@equal.in. We will be happy to serve you and help you through the use of the Assistant.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by way of an email/pop-up notification on the application and will post the new policy on this page with an updated “Effective Date.” You will be required to provide your consent and acceptance to the updated Privacy Policy before you can continue accessing the Assistant and the services after such change. We encourage you to visit the Assistant from time to time to ensure that you are well informed about our latest policies concerning personal information protection. All communications, transactions and dealings on the Assistant shall be subject to the latest version of this Privacy Policy in force at the time.

The grievance redressal team shall acknowledge your grievances, or complaints or concerns with respect to the Assistant or the services, within 24 (twenty-four) hours of receipt of the same and shall endeavour to redress the same at the earliest, and as per the requirements under applicable law.
Please note that Equal AI’s grievance redressal mechanism addresses only the issues related to the way we process and manage your data on the Assistant and in no way, can address the issues that you may have with businesses.
We would also like to inform you that as per the DPDP Act (once it comes into force), if you have any concerns with respect to the manner in which we process your data, and you have exhausted your opportunity of redressing your grievances with us and you are not satisfied with the resolution, you may also make a complaint to the Data Protection Board as and when established through a notification by the Central Government and in a manner as prescribed.
