Managing Calls & Contacts

01What is the Call Handling setting?

Call Handling lets you control which calls your assistant answers: All calls (every incoming call when declined), All calls except... (all calls except favourite contacts you select), or Only unknown numbers (only numbers not in your contacts).

02How do I change my Call Handling preference?

Open the Home Screen -> Settings -> Call Handling -> select your preferred option -> Confirm if prompted.

03If I choose 'All calls', will it pick up saved contacts too?

Yes — but only if you decline those calls. Calls from saved contacts ring on your phone first; if you decline or don't answer, the assistant picks up and handles the call.

04How does 'All calls except...' work?

Your assistant handles all calls — unknown numbers and saved contacts — except the favourite contacts you select. Calls from selected contacts ring on your phone as usual and won't be forwarded, even if you decline.
Steps: Settings -> Call Handling -> All calls except... -> Edit -> search and select contacts -> Save.

05Will I miss any important calls?

No — every call still rings on your phone first, so you're always in control. The assistant only takes over the calls you decide not to take.

06What is a promotional call?

Any call your assistant identifies as sales, marketing, advertising, or a cold call — such as loans, credit cards, real estate, or unrequested job offers. Your assistant automatically detects these and can mute them based on your settings.

07What happens when I get a promotional call?

The assistant identifies it during the conversation. If Silent Mode is ON for that category, the call is muted (no connect initiated, you get a 'muted' notification afterward). If OFF, it's treated like any other call but tagged 'Promotional Call' in your Conversations list.

08How do I turn on Silent Mode?

Open the Home Screen -> Settings -> Silent Mode -> Toggle ON. You can also customize which promotional categories should be muted.

09Can I mute specific types of promotional calls?

Yes. In Silent Mode settings you can choose which categories to mute — for example, only loans and credit cards but not job offers. Each category toggles independently.

10What if I'm actually interested in a promotional offer?

Open the conversation from your Conversations list — you'll see the full summary and recording, and you can take over the call anytime. You can also call the number back to follow up.

11Can I see promotional calls but not have them muted?

Yes. Turn off Silent Mode (or specific categories). Promotional calls will still be tagged in your Conversations list but won't be muted automatically — the assistant handles them like any other call.

12What does muting a caller do?

Muting a caller stops the assistant from connecting their calls to you. Calls from a muted caller — promotional and non-promotional — are picked up by the assistant but not connected to you. You'll still see the conversation and summary in your Conversations list.

13How do I mute a caller?

From the conversation screen: open the conversation -> tap the 3-dot menu (top right) -> Mute Caller -> Confirm. (OR) From the profile screen: open the contact's profile -> tap the Mute icon -> Confirm.

14How do I unmute a caller?

Same flow as muting, but the option shows Unmute. Alternatively, manage all muted callers from Settings -> Muted Contacts.

15Difference between muting a caller and Silent Mode?

Muting a caller applies to a specific phone number — all calls from that number won't be patched to you. Silent Mode applies to entire categories of promotional calls (loans, cards, etc.). Manual caller mute takes precedence over Silent Mode and other settings.

16Will I still see calls from a muted caller?

Yes. Muted callers still appear in your Conversations list with a muted icon. You can open the conversation and see the full summary and recording — the AI just won't connect the call to you.

17Where can I see all my muted callers?

Open the Home Screen -> Settings -> user preference -> Muted Contacts. You'll see all callers you've manually muted and can unmute any of them directly from this screen.

18What is Assistant Snooze?

Assistant Snooze temporarily turns off your AI Assistant for a set duration. It automatically turns back on once the time is up, so you don't have to remember to enable it manually.

19How do I snooze my assistant?

Open the Home Screen OR go to Settings -> tap the AI Assistant toggle to turn it OFF -> select a snooze duration -> tap Snooze Assistant.

20What snooze durations are available?

15 minutes, 1 hour, 6 hours, Rest of today.

21Will I get a notification when the assistant turns back on?

Yes. When the snooze timer ends you'll get a notification: 'Equal AI is back On to handle your unknown calls.' The assistant automatically resumes handling calls.

22Can I turn the assistant back on before snooze ends?

Yes. Toggle the AI Assistant back ON from the home screen anytime. The snooze schedule is cancelled and no 'back ON' notification will fire later.

23What happens to calls during snooze?

When snoozed, calls ring on your phone as usual; if you don't answer they won't be forwarded to the assistant. For unknown calls you'll still see the caller's name and category on a green card with a message like 'Couldn't handle because the assistant is OFF.'Yes, you can ask customized questions to the caller by following these steps:
