How Equal AI works

Equal AI isn't just a caller ID app — it's an AI assistant. It answers calls on your behalf, engages in conversations with callers, understands the purpose of the call, and provides clear, detailed summaries. Once you have the summary, it's up to you to decide whether to take the call, call back, or ignore it.

When a call comes in, if you want your assistant to handle it, just decline the call (or let it ring). Your AI Assistant automatically picks it up and has a conversation with the caller to understand who is calling and why, then notifies you with the purpose for call and caller details — without you taking the call. You can take over and speak directly if you want, or let the assistant handle it entirely.

Equal AI doesn't block calls — it answers and responds to every caller on your behalf when you decline. Using the call's context, it intelligently routes calls that matter to you while managing the rest so you stay focused. You can see the live conversation and take over the call at any time while the assistant is handling it. This gives you full control, allowing you to monitor and join the conversation instantly.

Equal AI uses call forwarding. Calls are forwarded to your AI Assistant in three scenarios: when you decline the call (busy condition), when you let it ring through without answering (unanswered condition), or when you're unreachable (e.g., on a flight or phone switched off). In all three cases the call is forwarded to your assistant, which handles it for you.

If you accept the call, you're connected directly to the caller and the AI Assistant won't step in. You can continue the call yourself or hang up — if you hang up and the caller calls again, you can decline that call to let the assistant handle it.

The AI Assistant introduces itself in a natural and professional manner at the beginning of the call. Most callers clearly understand that they are speaking with an assistant handling the call on your behalf.

Equal AI can handle calls from both unknown numbers and saved contacts. You can choose which calls the assistant handles from Settings -> Call Handling: All calls (every incoming call), All calls except... (all calls except favourite contacts you select), or Only unknown numbers (only numbers not in your contacts).

The AI Assistant is designed to handle incoming calls on your behalf. Currently it focuses on screening and managing incoming calls only.

Occasionally, due to network issues, a declined call may fail to forward to your assistant. In such cases the call is dropped and the assistant can't pick it up. These calls appear as missed calls in your phone's call log, so you can see who called and call them back.

Yes, you'll receive a notification and live activity card when a call is being handled by assistant. You can tap the notification/live activity card to monitor the call live.
